The lead teacher for RE is: Mrs K Joyce
At The Redstart Primary School, we seek to ensure that all our children are educated to develop, academically, morally, spiritually and emotionally to help them better understand themselves and others. Our aim is for children to develop a knowledge and understanding of the major world religions. This knowledge will enable children to develop important attitudes of both respect and sensitivity to other people’s beliefs and values. Learning from religion, children will develop an understanding of religious beliefs which will give them the opportunity and the ability to begin to reflect upon the key beliefs and teachings in those religions. The aim is to ensure that all children become confident learners who will develop their own ideas and views about life and be able to express themselves in a reasoned and thoughtful way.
At The Redstart Primary School, RE is taught using the locally-agreed syllabus, awareness, mystery and value. Following the Somerset Agreed Syllabus, children at Redstart Primary School encounter the key beliefs of Christianity, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism, as well Humanism.
Progression is built into the design of this curriculum. Key ideas are taught at an age appropriate level and this progression means that pupils will revisit them again with increasing sophistication. Pupils’ knowledge and skills build over time so connections can be made.
Through our religious education teaching, regular assemblies, school celebrations and involvement with the community, we aim to make children aware of the diversity of the world around them and enable them to cope with the challenges and responsibilities of living in a rapidly changing world.

The impact of RE at Redstart is seen in a number of ways.
Records of these are kept in subject leader files and on the school drive.
Children will have a knowledge of the major world religions. Through their general behaviour they will show respect towards others within school and the wider community in which they live. They will be able to express their views in a reasoned and thoughtful way being sensitive to the beliefs and values of others that are not necessarily the same as theirs.
